The Book Exchange – also known as the “Global Book Exchange” – is a division of the California Study, Inc. a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax ID#94-2860620.
We accept K-12 textbooks, storybooks, and readers for young people – providing an environmentally excellent alternative to the local landfill for local schools and libraries. The Book Exchange is a way-station for their many thousands of wonderful – often like-new, but no longer needed – books.
We offer these books LOCALLY – to young people and their families – and, of course, to teachers and schools. We provide books to all kinds of nonprofits, too: community literacy projects, daycare facilities, community centers, homeless shelters, hospitals, drug treatment facilities, prisons – and more. Everyone is welcome! Come in during our open hours (see below).
We also offer these books WORLDWIDE.. We collaborate with Rotary Clubs and other groups and individuals to ship our educational materials to developing countries around the globe. Students in over 30 countries are using our books.
Our “Staff”
The Book Exchange has no regular paid staff. We are volunteers. When you visit us, you might find yourself being assisted by one of our “regulars:” Kit, Kim, Judith, Lee’lee, Lois, Marilyn, Tio, or Will. We always appreciate assistance from local teachers, students from middle schools and high schools, and other wonderful people who like what we do. If you have time to join us, come on in!
