Here at the Global Book Exchange, we are all volunteers, so please be understanding when you come to get books or bring us books. We are not like a full-service bookstore, but we always do our best to help you, and we appreciate your patience and support.

How can I donate to The Book Exchange?

You can bring us books during our regular open hours, Wednesdays and Saturdays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Please see essential information about which books we accept. Note that we cannot take most fiction or nonfiction unless it was written expressly for young people. The only exception to this is classical literature. If you have more than 2 boxes, please e-mail Marilyn to schedule a time. Please see full details on the Individual Donation page.

Can I send books to The Book Exchange for donation?

Unfortunately, books cannot be mailed to our Del Ganado address. In special cases, if we can make an arrangement we will, but first e-mail us.

How can I find a specific book?

If you are not local and you are interested in a set of a specific title (minimum 12 copies per order) you may ask us to search for and ship textbooks and/or teacher editions to you. If you are local and want to pick up the books at our facility, we will do a search for you for a $20 non-refundable search fee payable in advance by credit card. (Obviously we encourage you to come do your own searching!)

Can anyone come in and get books?

We offer our books locally to teachers, schools and non-profits, as well as young people and their families.  Everyone is welcome!

Do you accept all kinds of books?

Please bring us reading and textbooks appropriate for ages Pre-K through Grade 12 — plus  college texts published after 2007. We will find good homes for them.  Books must be in good condition. Our highest priority is children’s literature and informational books for kids. The value of your book donations is tax-deductible. Individuals, please bring books in easy to handle (not too big) strong boxes or strong bags (no plastic). What kinds of books should I not donate?

Please do not bring us, Tests, lesson plans, teacher-created worksheets, College or graduate level texts published before 2008, Encyclopedias except World Book or children’s encyclopedias as described above, Magazines, Adult reading in the categories of: politics, philosophy, current affairs, history, biography, cook books, Adult leisure reading of these categories: self-help, “how-to” or money-making books, diet/health books, gardening, almanacs, coffee-table books, religion, real estate, law books, books about TV, movies, military, pornography, terror or joke books, fiction “best-sellers,” Video tapes, filmstrips, audio visual or computer equipment.

I would like to volunteer, how can I get involved?

The Book Exchange is run solely by volunteers. When you visit, you might find yourself being assisted by one of our “regulars:” Kit, Kim, Judith, Lee’lee, Lois, Marilyn, Tio, or Will. We appreciate assistance from local teachers, students from middle schools and high schools, and other wonderful people who want to take part in what we do. If you have time to join us, come on in!

The Book Exchange is a fun and meaningful community service project. We help local schools and the environment, while helping to educate children all over the world.  When you give your time to The Book Exchange, you can take books for yourself when you’re here.

How can I make a donation?

Your monetary contributions allow us to continue to enrich our own communities and to ship books to needy communities around the world. We are a non-profit organization; donated dollars are used to support our project and do not benefit any individuals. All donations are tax-deductible.
